AROHWS

Air Rescue One Heli Winch Society (AROHWS) is a benevolent registered charity dedicated to helping SAR groups save lives.   AROHWS was formed in 2017 to fundraise, promote, and provide administration to the regional Air Rescue One Program (AR1). AR1 is a Class D helicopter Rescue program that serves the Thompson Okanagan Region through local SAR teams.

AROHWS was formed by the volunteer members of the AR1 Team and passionate members of the community.  With no affiliation to any private helicopter provider, the mandate of AROHWS is to fundraise and support the AR1 program.

Fundraising allows AROHWS to:

  1. provide helicopter rescue training to helicopter rescue specialists, paramedic students, rescue winch operators, regional resource SAR members, regional fire departments, and other first responders.

  2. provide rescue equipment that makes the missions possible. This includes stretchers, cardiac monitors, rope rescue equipment, swift water equipment, and medical supplies.

  3. administration to the AR1 program including scheduling, base management, human resource management, financial planning, equipment inspections, equipment maintenance and daily readiness operations.

Our Goal.

The AR1 program has saved hundreds of lives over the years. The goal of AROHWS is to allow the AR1 team of rescue specialists to provide this service 24hrs a day, 365 days a year. To achieve this goal, AROHWS is dedicated to securing unlimited access to a winch equipped helicopter year round, maintain a fully trained and equipped rescue crew, and operate an efficient, specialized rescue organization. With your help, we can achieve these goals and keep AR1 saving lives across the Thompson Okanagan.

Supporting AR1.

AROHWS is partially funded through task revenue, but this amount falls far short of funding the needs of the rescue program.  AROHWS relies heavily on the generosity of the community to help fund the shortfall. This allows the rescue program to keep saving lives every day.  With your help, we can reach our goals and help people in their hour of need.
